1. There Is Not Enough Power
Car keys usually don’t work properly if not enough power is being sent to the car. This happens when too many accessories run on your car batteries or if your car’s battery has died.
To fix this problem, you need to remove any accessories that are draining battery life. If your car’s battery has died, it is best to buy a new one and replace the old one.
2. The Keyfob Battery Has Died
If you suspect that your key stopped working due to a dead battery, prepare yourself for the possibility of having to buy a new key as well as a new battery. You will need to remove both the key and the battery to diagnose the problem correctly. Use a voltmeter to see if there is any power left in your car’s battery and test the voltage in the key. 3. The Keyhole Has Been Pried
There are many reasons why car keys get broken. One of these reasons is that the keyhole has been pried open by thieves trying to steal your car. The solution: break off the small piece of plastic or metal protruding from the top part of the key using a hammer.
4. Internal Damage in the Keyless Remote
If your keyless remote has stopped working for no apparent reason, it most likely suffered internal damage. One way to fix this is simply by replacing the battery to see if this solves the problem.
If it still doesn’t work, you need to call an auto locksmith immediately. They will disassemble the remote and reattach the parts inside before putting everything back together again.
5. The Car’s Computer Is Not Reading Your Key
Another problem that car keys face is that the car’s computer is not reading it correctly. This problem affects older cars more than newer ones because older cars use an analog system to read keys, whereas newer models mainly rely on digital systems.
If your car has an analog system and your key is not working, you need to sand off some of its metal so that the electromagnet inside the ignition can read its chip.
